Commercial Panel Upgrades

Feb 16, 2016

Is it time to upgrade your commercial electrical panel? A fully functioning and operating commercial panel is important for keeping your home safe from electrical fire as well as keeping your appliances and electronics working properly. Here are some signs you need to look out for:

Faulty wiring issues

If you have flickering lights, sparking outlets, a persistent burning smell, or feel a slight shock when you touch appliances then it’s time to replace your current panel.

Installing new appliances

When installing new items like bathtubs, dishwashers, and large appliance like those, the amount of energy that will be consumed by all of your appliances is increased. And it’s likely that the current panel that you have won’t be able to keep up with it.

Replacing fuses with circuit breakers

Fuses and circuit breakers work similarly and essentially perform the same job. Fuses weren’t designed to be able to withstand as much electrical current as we use on average in a day, so they are a bit outdated. Consistently needing to replace your fuses is a good sign that it’s time to just replace them all together with circuit breakers.

The commercial panel replacement process

A certified, licensed and bonded electrician can help you to pick the appropriate commercial panel for your home, and be sure to follow the city, state, and national electric codes.  An electrician will also plan for the amount of power used in your home. Replacing your electrical panel can include arc fault protection, GFCI protection, main grounding system, and surge protection in conjunction with replacing the panel itself.

Planning ahead for future electrical upgrades

It’s inevitable that eventually you will need to do updates and repairs. We need to upgrade our electrical panels in order to accommodate the new appliances that use more energy than what the original panels were made to withstand. In order to prepare for the future, you should invest in top quality wiring and equipment.  Doing this will not only help you down the road, but increase the value of your home!

Keep in mind that upgrading an electrical panel requires the skill and knowledge of an experienced electrical contractor that is licensed in the area you live in and isn’t something that should be done on your own. Call one of our certified electricians today to get started and upgrade your electrical panel.
